Teletherapy | San Francisco, CA
Between long hours at work, unpredictable schedules, and the pace of life in the city, finding time for regular therapy can be difficult. Teletherapy in San Francisco makes it easier to get consistent, meaningful mental health care without adding another obligation to an already full week.
You can meet with me from your apartment, a private office, or anywhere else in California where you have privacy and a stable connection. No commute across town, no searching for parking, and no rearranging your whole afternoon around a single appointment.
Understanding Mental and Behavioral Health Care
Mental health care and behavioral health care are often used interchangeably. Both focus on supporting how you think, feel, cope, and relate to others. Behavioral health also includes the habits and behaviors that affect your day-to-day wellness, from how you manage stress to how you show up in your relationships.
Telehealth services, including teletherapy, are simply a way of receiving counseling or psychotherapy remotely rather than in an office. The quality and purpose of the treatment remain the same. What changes is how you access it.
Why Teletherapy Works for the San Francisco Bay Area
The Bay Area has a particular rhythm. Many people work long or irregular hours in tech, healthcare, education, and other demanding fields. Others are balancing caregiving, shared living spaces, or long commutes across the region.
Teletherapy removes some of the practical barriers that make it difficult to prioritize your own care. You don’t have to factor in bridge traffic, a Muni or BART delay, or the challenge of finding parking near a therapist’s office. You simply need a private space and a few minutes to log on.
For professionals dealing with workplace stress, long hours, or burnout, eliminating the commute can make regular therapy easier to maintain.
Teletherapy also gives you access to licensed mental health providers across California, not only those within a short drive of your neighborhood. That matters when you’re looking for the right therapeutic fit rather than simply the closest location.
Online Therapy Sessions: What to Expect
Online therapy sessions take place through a secure video platform with HIPAA compliance and the same standards of confidentiality that apply to traditional therapy.
Before your first appointment, I’ll send you the information you need to access your session.
You’ll want a private space where you can speak openly, whether that’s a bedroom with the door closed, a home office, or another quiet location. Many clients in San Francisco work from home or share living spaces with roommates, partners, or family, so finding privacy can take a little planning.
It’s worth it. Therapy works best when you can speak honestly without worrying about being overheard.
Teletherapy vs. In-Person Sessions
In-person sessions work well for many people, and research suggests that online therapy can also provide effective treatment for a wide range of mental health concerns. Teletherapy offers another path to the same kind of care, especially when scheduling, commuting, work, or family responsibilities make regular office visits difficult. My practice is currently entirely online, providing teletherapy to clients in San Francisco and throughout California. The goal isn't simply convenience. It's making consistent care easier to sustain.
Individual Therapy and Couples Therapy
I work with adults age 20 and older on concerns including self-esteem, anxiety, dysfunctional family patterns, and relationship conflict.
Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes, and couples therapy sessions are 60 minutes.
Both are available entirely through telehealth.
In individual therapy, we may explore emotional patterns, self-esteem, anxiety, family relationships, and the experiences that continue to influence how you see yourself and relate to others.
In couples therapy, we look at the patterns between you, including conflict, withdrawal, resentment, difficulty communicating, or feeling emotionally disconnected.
The goal isn’t to assign blame. It’s to understand what’s happening underneath the pattern and create healthier ways of relating to one another.
My Approach
My work centers on relationships, including the relationship between us in therapy and the patterns you bring into other relationships in your life.
I believe healing happens in connection, not in isolation, and that a strong therapeutic relationship is often what makes meaningful change possible.
I use a trauma-informed approach, paying close attention to how past experiences may shape the way you respond to stress, conflict, vulnerability, and closeness today.
I also draw on attachment-focused therapy to help you understand relational patterns, along with strategies for nervous system regulation that can help build a greater sense of calm and stability in everyday life.
I work with clients from diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, and life experiences. Cultural expectations, family dynamics, community, language, and generational patterns can all influence how we understand ourselves and our relationships.
Effective treatment should reflect the person sitting in front of me, not a one-size-fits-all model.
Who Teletherapy Is For
Teletherapy may be a good fit if you:
- Have a demanding schedule that makes in-person appointments difficult
- Live in San Francisco or elsewhere in the Bay Area and want to avoid another commute
- Prefer meeting from the privacy of a familiar space
- Want consistent mental health support without adding more logistical stress
- Feel comfortable having a personal conversation over video
- Want access to therapists and providers beyond your immediate neighborhood
Teletherapy isn’t appropriate for every situation. If you’re experiencing an immediate mental health crisis or need a higher level of in-person treatment, online sessions may not be the right resource.
Getting Support During a Difficult Time
You don’t have to be in crisis or have a specific diagnosis to benefit from therapy.
Some people reach out because of anxiety, depression, relationship problems, family conflict, or trauma. Others simply recognize that certain patterns aren’t working anymore and want to understand themselves better.
A difficult time doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it feels like exhaustion, disconnection, repeating the same arguments, losing confidence in yourself, or carrying emotional stress that never quite goes away.
Teletherapy gives you a practical way to begin getting support without adding another complicated appointment to your week.
Insurance and Fees
I don’t accept insurance directly, but I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Coverage varies by insurance provider and plan, so it’s worth checking beforehand to understand your specific behavioral health or mental health benefits.
Couples therapy is private pay as well.
I’m happy to answer general questions about fees during your free consultation.

Common Questions About Teletherapy
Is teletherapy in California legal and regulated?
Yes. California requires therapists providing telehealth services to hold an appropriate state license. I’m licensed through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Before treatment begins, I’ll also review informed consent for telehealth services with you.
Is teletherapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Research suggests that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy for many people. Client satisfaction and quality of care can also be comparable, particularly when there is a strong therapeutic relationship and treatment is consistent.
Is teletherapy HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Sessions take place through a HIPAA-compliant video platform, and the same confidentiality standards that apply to in-person psychotherapy apply to online therapy.
What concerns can online therapy help with?
Teletherapy can be used for many of the same concerns addressed through in-person counseling, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, family patterns, stress, burnout, and trauma-related concerns. Whether my approach is appropriate for your particular needs is something we can discuss during your consultation.
Do you accept insurance?
I don’t accept insurance directly, but I can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Check with your insurance provider to confirm your benefits.
Does teletherapy include medication management?
No. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I provide counseling and psychotherapy but don’t prescribe medication. If medication is part of your treatment, therapy can be coordinated with another provider when appropriate.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice before a scheduled appointment. Sessions cancelled within 24 hours are payable, although rescheduling within the same week may be possible when availability allows.
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
If what you’ve read here resonates with you, that’s a good place to start. The complimentary consultation gives us both a chance to talk about what you’re looking for and see whether working together feels like the right fit.
