Yes, online therapy is worth it for all the reasons outlined above (and more). As a licensed therapist myself, I’ve seen firsthand how helpful online mental health services can be. However, you don’t have to take my word for it. Research shows that online counseling can be highly effective.
What are the risks of online therapy?
There are some situations when traditional in-person therapy might be a better fit. When there are safety issues like suicidal ideation or interpersonal violence, in-person counseling is a better choice. Less serious risks of online therapy are feeling disconnected from your therapist (though it’s entirely possible to create a strong therapeutic connection online) and technical difficulties.
Is online therapy HIPAA-compliant?
Yes, online therapy is HIPAA-compliant. All sessions are held via a safe, secure platform so your sensitive information is kept confidential. Your privacy is of the utmost importance and it’s your right to receive confidential therapy.
How can I pay for online sessions?
I’m an out-of-network therapist, meaning I don’t work directly with health insurance companies. I believe this gives you the most flexibility and confidentiality in your care. However, if you are interested in using your health insurance benefits, I can provide a statement that you can use to submit for reimbursement.
